Avery made the news today, September 21, 2006, in sorts. Wish TV 8 come
to the house to do a story about the non-existence of a state policy to allow
employees to donate accumulated leave to other employees in great need.
Many co-workers of Jon's at the Indiana Department of Transportation had
made a request through Indiana State Personnel to allow them to donate a
large sum of sick time from their personal accumulations so that Jon's time
in Baltimore for Avery's surgery would not go unpaid. Ultimately, the
request was denied, and many of those involved with the request were
frustrated that it could not be done. Betsy, a friend and the wife of one of
Jon's coworkers, made some contacts with the news outlets because she
believed that the state should really consider making a policy to allow the
donation of time between state employees for such major medical problems.
She knew that other states and the federal government have policies which
allow time donations. Wish TV 8 expressed an interest and decided to cover
and air the story. It is fairly short, but you can click on the peas at left to
check out the text version of the broadcast. Once there, you can then also
click on the video version of the story to see the broadcast.
THANKS BETSY FOR BRINGING THIS TO THE STATE'S AND THE
LOCAL MEDIA'S ATTENTION! AND THANK YOU FOR BAKING TO
RAISE FUNDS FOR AVERY. AND THANK YOU ALL INDOT
EMPLOYESS AND FRIENDS FOR YOUR EXPRESSIONS OF
CONCERN AND GENEROSITY. YOUR GENEROSITY IS THE REAL
STORY! WORDS CAN NOT EXPRESS OUR GRATEFULNESS
ADEQUATELY, PLEASE JUST KNOW THAT WE ARE!
