| Avery underwent a functional hemispherotomy on September 28, 2006 at The Johns Hopkins Hospital for left hemimegalencephaly. On October 16, 2006, just two and a half weeks later, she underwent a subtotal left hemispherectomy because the seizures quickly returned following the initial procedure. She spent 8 months seizure free...and then they returned. On February 21, 2008, Avery had additional brain surgery in an attempt to complete the anatomical hemispherectomy. Avery continues to have seizures, though they have been further diminished. Neurosurgeon George Jallo performed both surgeries, under Gods careful direction of course. |
